WHO ARE WE? The Nigeria Society of Biochemistry Students (NSBS), is a student association for all biochemistry students at various tertiary institutions in Nigeria. It has its National Body which houses numerous local chapters from the six (6) geo-political zone in Nigeria. 8th NSBS SOUTH EAST CONVENTION AT MICHAEL OKPARA UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, UMUDIKE
The 8th South East Convention of the Nigeria Society of Biochemistry Students South East Zone was held at the prestigious Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia State. Over 1,200 students were in attendance with dignitaries such as the South East Zonal Coordinator, Nigeria Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Prof. Akubugwo. At the convention, Abia State University, Uturu emerged as the South East Quiz Champion while Federal Polytechnic Nekede and University of Nigeria, Nsukka produced the Mr. & Miss NSBS South East respectively. A Biochemist’s View of God’s Wonders: A Molecular Understanding of Life
Most of the time when you mention biochemistry, the first thing that comes to their minds is secondary school chemistry and a little biology; then you hear them make comments like, “I can’t understand it because I don’t like chemistry.” Yes it is chemistry and biology but it is beyond that. It is indeed more than secondary school chemistry and biology. It is in fact the study of all the cellular activities in an organism. Bio-chemistry itself is the study of life at the molecular level. To further explain this; biochemistry is studying living things, ranging from plants, animals and microorganism, from the tiniest cellular function to the complex organs in these living things. Understanding the mechanism of the reactions occurring in the living beings that keeps them existing.
